We are proud to announce the release of our latest publications:
A book of Placenames and Townlands of Lower Mourne and our 2007 Calendar. Both of these publications are available for purchase from any of the committee members.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Micheál ó Mainín, Newry and Mourne Council and Foras na Gaelige for their support and guidance which has made the release of these publications possible.

Irish Language Classes

At present we are working on organising an Irish medium Mother and Toddler group for the Lower Mourne area. Further information regarding this matter will appear in the local press and on this website in the forthcoming months.

Irish Summer School 2006

Our annual Summer School took place from Monday 3rd July – Friday 7th July 2006 and has been deemed as a great success, not only by the 110 children who were in attendance and their parents, but also by our sponsors Foras na Gaelige and Newry and Mourne Council. We would like to thank our sponsors and the GAA for their continued support which has enabled our Summer School to flourish.

Demand for Bilingual Education in the Mournes

We have recently initiated a partnership with Comhairle na Gaelscolaiochta, the council of Irish Medium Education, with the aim of establishing an Irish Medium nursery school in the Mourne area.

Irish-medium schools in near by areas such as Castlewellan, Newry and Downpatrick are flourishing and we feel that the demand for an Irish-medium school to serve the greater Mourne area is significant.

We are currently considering a Naíscoil site at Maghereagh, a location which we feel has the potential to attract children from the whole Mourne area.
